| Here's a quick and easy tutorial for creating the 3D looking text above. 1) Open up a new Image with a black background.
2) Select the Text Tool pictured to the right. When the Text Tool window opens use the following settings:
Font = Abbess
Size = 50
Bold = Checked
Color = Select the lightest shade of Gray. |
 |
| Now type in your text of choice and then click on the Effects Tab and Select Outer bevel.
3) Click the Ok Button and your image should look like mine to the right. |
 |
| 4) Select the Text Tool again and when the Text Tool Window opens you'll see a new Button "Create new text". Click on this button.
5) With your new Text Layer selected use the "Arrow Keys" on the keyboard and move the new text layer 2 pixels to the right and 2 pixels
down.
|
 |
| 6) Select the Text Tool again and again click on the "Create new text" button. With the new Text Layer selected click on the Text
Tool one more time and then click on the "Transform to selection" button. The 3rd Text Layer we just created will now be transformed into a
selection like mine to the right. |
 |
| 7) Zoom in to 200 or 300% and using the keyboard arrow keys adjust your selection so that the left and top parts of your selection line
up with the bevel edge like mine on the right. With your selection selected and in place: |
 |
| 8) Menu = Filter / Color / Gradient Style = Duotone
Direction = Top to bottom
Color 1 = use the dropper to get the light gray of the bevel
Opacity = 100%
Color 2 = Black
Opacity = 50% |
 |
| 9) Menu = Filter / Stylize / Drop shadow Color = Black
Opacity = 70%
Offset x = 6
Offset y = 6
Style = Antialiased
You may be wondering why I added a drop shadow since we have a black background. Compare the 2 images on the right. Notice how the
P is casting a shadow on the H and the bottom of it's own curve. Again note how the H is casting a shadow on itself and the O. |
